The summer beauty of Småland
For many, Småland is the archetypal picture of Sweden – so we put it to the test. We go on a moose safari in Smålandet outside Markaryd, enjoy the Swedish public right of access at Getnö Gård and take a glassblowing course in Glasriket (Kingdom of Crystal). Last but not least, we check in to Västervik Resort Lysingsbadet and size up the festival ‘Sverige Dansar’ (Sweden is dancing).

Seeing a moose close up without your pulse racing is a challenge. But at Smålandet just outside Markaryd it’s a bit easier than otherwise. If the gigantic deer come too close, just put up your windows.

Glassblowing workshop
In the Kingdom of Crystal in Småland, glass has been produced since the 18th century. On our visit to one of the most famous places, Kosta, we try glassblowing in a two-hour workshop at Kosta Glascenter. We take our pieces home with us.

Sweden is dancing at Västervik Resort
Västervik Resort Lysingsbadet is one of the biggest campsites in Scandinavia – a five-star campsite and swimming area about 3 km south of Västervik. Here, there is a wide choice of sports and play activities for everyone, almost regardless of age, interest and current condition. On our visit to Västervik Resort, the Sverige Dansar dance festival was on, with entertainment and workshops to suit all levels: beginners to professionals.

Wilderness camping with 150 generously sized pitches, all nicely situated in a leafy forest environment. The campsite is perfect if you are looking for a quiet setting and still want to be close to nature activities, such as canoeing, birdwatching and fishing.
