Count Lennart Bernadotte, a relative of the Swedish royal family, was taken with the small island of Mainau in Lake Constance (Bodensee) in 1932. It was then described as a green jungle and it was its former owner, Grand Duke Friedrich who planted the exotic plants found here. Today the island boasts more than 400 species of roses, 12,000 dahlias, and so much more. The island attracts over a million visitors every year.
