Frolicking along the Rhine and Mosel

Just outside the caravan window the Rhine and Mosel rivers meet. They will act as our guide along the journey. We visit the festival in Cochem, meet one of the foremost winegrowers in Rheingau, and cycle along Lake Constance (Bodensee) to the flowering island of Mainau.

Along the river Mosel there is an abundance of eye candy and picture postcard views for you to enjoy. We will stop in the small town of Cochem where they, every year during the last week of August, put on a popular and well-attended wine festival.

One of the foremost winemakers in the world can be found in the town Rüdesheim am Rhein, along the longest river in Western Europe – the Rhine. His name is Johannes Leintz, and in 2011 he was chosen Winemaker of the year 2011 in Germany, and the Riesling grape is his domain.

Mainau – the Swedish Count’s flowering island

Count Lennart Bernadotte, a relative of the Swedish royal family, was taken with the small island of Mainau in Lake Constance (Bodensee) in 1932. It was then described as a green jungle and it was its former owner, Grand Duke Friedrich who planted the exotic plants found here. Today the island boasts more than 400 species of roses, 12,000 dahlias, and so much more. The island attracts over a million visitors every year.
