Wonderful Slovenia

We travel to Slovenia, high and low. We visit the amazing Škocjan Caves and set off on a mountain bike adventure in Kranjska Gora, downhill on Ingemar Stenmark’s favourite slopes. During the visit, we stay at a beach campsite by the Adriatic Sea, Kamp Adria, as well as at Camping Bled. At the latter, a cep risotto is made, using wine from the vineyard Cotar, which we also visit.

A visit to the charming Piran

That Piran in Slovenia is one of the most photographed cities around the Mediterranean is no surprise as we walk through the narrow alleys past shabby but beautifully painted houses. The fact that the currency here is the euro is no disadvantage as it’s easy to convert into Swedish kronor when we eat, drink and enjoy ourselves. The prices here are also still relatively low.

Deep down in the Škocjan Caves

Slovenia has one of the world’s most impressive cave systems. The depth and mystical quality of the Škocjan Caves leave an impression on the retina long after we have returned to the surface. The passages, tunnels and halls in the hollowed out limestone are impressively lit and well worth a visit.

Harvest times for Slovenian wines

Wine may not be the first thing you think of when you hear about Slovenia, but the fact is that the popular drink has been produced here for thousands of years. We visit Cotar – a Slovenian vineyard at the height of the harvest time, but the owners take the time to show us around and offer us tasters.

Impressive views in Bled

A third of Slovenia is protected nature areas, and the small village of Bled, located next to the lake of the same name, is no exception. Incredible environments, a quiet atmosphere and the Vintgar Gorge are three excellent reasons to stop here for a night or two.

Downhill by mountain bike in Kranjska Gora

Downhill is great even on the bare ground. But we change the skis for a mountain bike when we whizz down Ingmar Stenmark’s favourite slopes. We get an adrenaline rush and butterflies in our stomachs, but it isn’t as difficult as it may seem.

Our campsite accommodation in Slovenia

Adria Camping is a four-star campsite about half an hour east of Piran. It offers its guests 430 pitches and about 20 luxury caravans for hire. The campsite is located by the Slovenian Riviera, with lovely swimming.

Camping Bled is located right down by the lake of the same name. It has 280 pitches of varying sizes and the prices are similar to those in Sweden. If you fancy some luxury, you can hire one of the campsite’s glamping cottages with its own bathroom, own hot tub and fresh breakfast every morning.

Risotto på karljohansvamp

4 personer

50 gr torkad Karljohanssvamp
5 dl varmt vatten
5 dl hönsbuljong
2 dl vitt vin (gärna Malvasia)
5 schalottenlökar
3 msk olivolja
3 dl risottoris
1 dl finstrimlad persilja
2 dl riven parmesan
