If there are some who have been good at laying claim to nice land to build on over the years it is the monks. And maybe especially those who in the ninth century, in the honour of John the Baptist, built San Juan de Gaztelugatxe: a narrow stone bridge with 241 steps that leave you catching you breath – but it really is worth it.
