The well-preserved and beautiful Avignon

Avignon is a city on the eastern bank of the Rhône River and was important already during the Roman Period. The city is well preserved and maybe best known for having been the papal residence for 70 years in the 14th century. The city has many mediaeval buildings: the papal palace, the Roman cathedral and the city wall with its 39 towers are among the most important.
